Safeguarding

My commitment

I take safeguarding very seriously in my work with children, young people, and adults. I hold an Enhanced DBS check and Level 3 Safeguarding Children training, and I follow the BACP Ethical Framework as well as national safeguarding guidance.

Children & Young People

  • My role is to provide a safe, supportive space where children and young people can talk, play, or express themselves.

  • If I believe a child is at risk of significant harm, I have a duty to act. This usually means contacting the Children’s Advice & Support Service (CASS) in Birmingham or the police in an emergency.

  • I will normally inform parents or carers if a safeguarding referral is needed.

  • If I believe informing parents would increase the risk to the child, I may contact safeguarding services first and then explain what actions have been taken.

Adults

  • Confidentiality is central to counselling for adults as well as for children and young people.

  • The only time I may need to share information is if I believe there is a serious risk of harm, or if the law requires it.

  • In these situations, I may contact Birmingham Adult Social Care (ACAP) or emergency services. Wherever possible, I will discuss this with you first.

Confidentiality

  • Counselling is confidential, but confidentiality is not absolute.

  • I will only share information when it is necessary to keep someone safe or when required by law.

  • Wherever possible, I will talk this through with you before sharing.

Policy review

This safeguarding statement is reviewed annually to ensure it remains up to date with current best practice and legal guidance.
